Welcome to Shangri-La Development Association (SDA).

It is with great pride and gratitude that I share our journey with you. SDA was founded by a group of passionate young individuals united by a common vision: to create opportunities for others and contribute to building a more just, inclusive, and self-sustaining society. Since our establishment in 2015, SDA has worked alongside communities in some of Nepal’s most remote and underserved regions. What began as a commitment to support rural livelihoods has grown into a multi-sectoral effort encompassing education, health, agriculture, capacity building, disability inclusion, and community resilience. Across every initiative, our approach remains the same: development must be participatory, locally owned, and sustainable.

Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable stories of change. From supporting deaf children through the Jumla Special Children Project, to helping mothers access safer healthcare services, strengthening local schools, promoting sustainable agriculture, and previously providing educational opportunities through the SDA Literacy Home, our work has always been guided by the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive with dignity. These achievements are not SDA’s alone. They are the result of the resilience and determination of the communities we serve, the dedication of our staff and volunteers, the trust of our local partners, and the generous support of friends and supporters who share our commitment to social justice and sustainable development.

As we move forward, we remain committed to strengthening local capacities, promoting inclusion and equity, and ensuring that no one is left behind because of geography, disability, gender, or economic circumstance. We believe that meaningful and lasting change happens when communities are empowered to lead their own development, and we are honored to walk alongside them in that journey.
