Promoting sustainable livelihoods and food security through organic innovation and community-led farming.
Agriculture plays a central role in the livelihoods of communities in Kailash Rural Municipality. Many households depend on subsistence farming, seasonal labour, and forest resources for survival. SDA’s agriculture programme was established to improve food security, increase agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable livelihoods.
At the heart of the programme is Achim’s Agriculture Field, a demonstration farm covering approximately 17,576 square metres. The farm is divided into agricultural, livestock, and agroforestry blocks, each serving as a practical learning environment for farmers, students, and community groups.
The farm demonstrates modern and climate-resilient agricultural techniques, organic farming methods, vegetable production, livestock management, agroforestry systems, and improved breeding practices. SDA regularly organises farmer trainings, exposure visits, and practical demonstrations.
Improved livestock breeds, tree seedlings, agricultural inputs, and technical support are provided to strengthen local farming systems. Produce generated from the farm contributes to school mid-day meal programmes and helps support project sustainability.
The programme aims not only to improve food production but also to create opportunities for income generation, environmental conservation, and long-term community resilience.
